"Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."

Matthew 7:12

Bible

Our Bible curriculum is based on a chronological study of parts of the Old and New Testaments. Principles of living and doctrinal points are emphasized with each Bible story so that the students are taught more than just facts. Special units on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, prayer, Christian growth, and missions are also included. Bible Curriculum is taken from Bob Jones University Press.

Reading

Building upon the strong foundation of the Kindergarten program, the goal in First Grade is for each child to become an independent reader; one who reads joyfully whether for pleasure or specific information. The Reading curriculum includes intensive phonics instruction, vocabulary building, and comprehension skills. In addition to A Handbook for Reading, our lessons use several supplementary readers and quality children's literature, which follow the progression of the phonics concepts introduced. Reading Curriculum is taken from the A Beka Book Reading Program.

Language

Through the use of our curriculum, students will begin to learn about the structure of the English language - the basic parts of speech, capitalization, punctuation, types of sentences, sentence structure, sentence building, daily sentences for proofreading practice, and creative writing. During the course of the year, students will move from writing a few simple sentences to writing paragraphs. Language curriculum is taken from the The Shurley Method.

Spelling

Students are expected to learn weekly spelling lists to encourage the understanding of short and long vowel patterns. They will also begin to grow in writing fluency with the use of short word lists in sentences. Spelling curriculum is taken from the A Beka Spelling/Poetry Series.

Penmanship

Developing proper penmanship habits, such as slant, posture, letter formation, and spacing will be practiced. Penmanship curriculum is taken from Zaner-Bloser Method.

Creative Writing

The students are introduced to Creative Writing through original stories in conjunction with the language curriculum.
